The week in review…

Friday, October 29th, 2004

This week, like many others in my past, found me halfway to sick and halfway to well. Today I feel great, but Monday through Wednesday found me craving sleep, a cool washcloth, and an occasional dose of ibuprofen.

I’ve begun the long, painful process of creating flash cards. If only I had an eidetic memory, all of this so-called studying would be unnecessary. ;-)

TOOTH LOSER

Tuesday, October 26th, 2004

As you can see quite clearly in these pictures, Cale lost a tooth tonight. *grins* Isn’t he cute?

Studies

Sunday, October 24th, 2004

Today is crunch day for my Arabic studies. I have about one hundred vocabulary words I need to memorize and I should have been working on them for the past month or so. Somehow, I think I’m better at understanding language structure than I am at learning vocabulary. Mrph.

I wrote a short essay about my family. I only described my parents, my wife, and our sons. If I’d gone on to describe my brothers, sisters, and their spouses, I fear it would have been a dissertation rather than a paragraph or two. ;-)

This afternoon I’m meeting with a classmate to go over our homework and see what we’re understanding/missing from all of this.

My hand

This is just a picture of my hand. Nothing particularly special about it, but I thought I’d upload it anyway.

Happy Friday!

Today in the Present

Wednesday, October 20th, 2004

Rather than today in history, I bring you today in the present.

We’re now at the under-two-week mark for the presidential (and other) elections. Various people have pointed out how we’re likely to continue having the recount messes that we had in the 2000 election. Some people are noting that certain voting systems (Diebold, anyone?) apparently can’t be recounted? At any rate, I can’t see this working out well.

Halloween is eleven days away and I haven’t had a satisfactory sugar high in well nigh a week. Probably time for me to up my insulin.

I’m halfway in between sick and well and I’m, frankly, uh… sick of it. I’d rather be well or sick… not stuck in limbo.

David has headgear now and wears it in the evenings and to bed. Happily he doesn’t have to deal with it during the day, although I suspect he’d love to show it off to his classmates.

Money sucks. Maybe I should open an e-panhandling site to see how much money I could raise. *srednop* Buddy, could you spare a dime?

And now back to your regularly scheduled history lesson.

Work (a.k.a. Why?)

Tuesday, October 19th, 2004

It seems that every Tuesday and Thursday I find a brand new reason to want to quit this job. Then I look at my bills and I’m reminded why I don’t quit.

Someone explain to me why that meeting has to suck such rotten eggs?

Please?

Latest and greatest

Friday, October 15th, 2004

We’ve learned a lot over the course of this week. One thing we now know is that a silver can of Pork (With Juices) can make a delicious meal. Another thing we know is that October wants to be a cold month.

Seriously, though, things have been going wonderfully over the past few days. I took an exam in Arabic on Wednesday and it went pretty well. My Dad and Jewell have moved into their new house. David had a cub scout pack meeting on Tuesday and no one was dismembered. Cale’s been busy growing up and reading like crazy. :-)

I’ve got a lot of things on my mind… some of them work related… some of them not… yet here I am at work… It’s Friday and I’m trying to remember what it is that I do here. ;-)

Away, away…

Monday, October 11th, 2004

Christina, Cale, and I drove to Satanta, KS this weekend and had a lovely time visiting with family. David stayed in the Lawrence/Kansas City area and watched the NASCAR action. :-) I think we all enjoyed ourselves. We heard on the news Saturday night that KU beat K-State in football. I think I’m still in shock. ;-)

Today is a rough one for me. The weather is dark, dull, and cold. My Arabic class is so hard for me. Making sentences seems like something other than pulling teeth. (I rather enjoy pulling teeth… ask the boys.) Work sucks. Christina’s sick. I’m tired and my back hurts. Bleah.

Musings

Friday, October 8th, 2004

Today is payday, Friday, the last work-day of the week. Wa-HOO-yeah!

Spanish and Arabic share quite a bit of vocabulary.

Apparently if the square root of an integer is not an integer then that square root is not a rational number.

There are far too many ways to waste time online.

I really enjoy Taco Bell, in spite of my mind’s reluctance to buy fast food.

This weekend should be a hoot.
