Whoah

I’m used to certain things in my life… The sky is (generally) blue during the daylight hours… The moon orbits our planet and looks really pretty… Feet stink… Rainbows look like heaven threw up a Care Bears™ full length animated movie…

Wait a second… Feet stink… Why is this bothering me today? Yesterday I went over to Julie’s to cut down the redbud in their front yard. It was sickly and in need of a coup de grĂ¢ce. I happily obliged. What I apparently failed to realize is that when I sweat, a lot of it comes out of my feet. My socks absorb it, but also pass it along to my friends, The Shooz.

The Shooz and I have never been on very good terms. Lately I find that being near them for too long leads to tears. Accordingly, I’ve taken to leaving them outside or, on occasion, washing them in the Maytag. The good news is that they become clean. The bad news is that, even clean, they stink.

Today the smell keeps coming at me in waves here in my cubicle. I don’t envy anyone around me and I’m thinking I should go home if only to put everyone else out of my misery.

Anticipation

Yesterday there was a fast-a-thon sponsored by the Muslim Student Association here at KU. I read about it and talked with Christina about it and we both decided to pledge our hunger to help others who are normally hungry. So we fasted from sun-up to sun-down yesterday, taking in no food and no drink. Since businesses were donating money to fund charities for hungry people based on the number of participants, I feel like we did some good.

This week marks the wedding of my youngest sibling. I’m excited for Whitney and Brent and I hope that they have a great experience for their wedding, but I hope even more that they enjoy their lives together.

I’m taking afternoons off for the rest of this week, which I find exciting.

And now…

We’ve been without our beloved Molly for nearly two weeks now. One grandparent has fallen and broken her hip and another grandparent has survived a triple bypass surgery.

I’ve been trying to focus on all of the good things that have happened in the few weeks just passed. We’ve had our parent-teacher conferences and it’s been great to hear how great the boys’ teachers think they are. I’ve had some successes (and setbacks) at work. Our family has grown stronger as a unit.

What is next? I wonder what I should expect.
